Skill level: Any. All experience levels welcome and encouraged.

Can drawing be a frame for expressing our emotional intelligence? What is the difference between abstract and non-objective art making? This workshop will investigate these questions and provide an overview of basic drawing materials and expose students to creating a process for drawing that initiates from the imagination, memory, or experiences.  Through the development of personal rules, students will begin to recognize their own way of finding meaning in mark making. Focus will be placed on helping artists to draw and make marks in a way to to bring out deeper meaning within the drawing. The lessons of each week will build on topics and concepts covered in the previous class.

Students should bring or buy basic drawing tools. Recommended materials include:
an Ebony pencil

a kneaded eraser

a Pentel Color Brush black ink brush marker or Kuratake black ink brush marker (with a nylon brush tip that liquid ink flows through)

18x24 Newsprint, Sketch, or Drawing Paper Pad

charcoal pencils, one each 4b, 6b, and white

Students are welcome to bring other materials if desired.

An toolbox for transporting materials, and an inexpensive paper portfolio for transporting the pad and finished drawings would be very helpful, but are not required. Drawing boards will be supplied by The Art Supply Depo.
