THE INTUITIVE HAND: DRAWING EXERCISES TO ENHANCE FOCUS// FOR TEENS

90.00

Instructor: Yusuf Lateef
Ages: 10-16
Dates: Four Consecutive Mondays, February 12, 19, 26, March 5th from 4:00-6:00PM
If popular, this course will be repeated every other month, with different topics to be covered each session. This class will also be hosted for adults.

This workshop will provide an overview of basic drawing materials, and expose teens to exercises that will challenge the way process information that we "see" and transpose it on to the two-dimensional plane. This class will provide basic drawing instruction as well as inspire curiosity for drawing from life.  Weekly instruction will focus on drawing from a still life set up specifically designed to engage students and reinforce concepts that will be demonstrated in class. Yusuf will review strategies for looking and seeing, as well as demonstrate how value and line can be used to represent objects, as well as convey emotion. Focus will be placed on helping artists to draw and make marks in a way to to bring out deeper meaning within the drawing. The lessons of each week will build on topics and concepts covered in the previous class.

Students should bring or buy basic drawing tools and a pad of 18x24" paper. Recommended materials include:

  • an Ebony pencil
  • a kneaded eraser
  • 18x24 Newsprint, Sketch, or Drawing Paper Pad
  • charcoal pencils, one each 4b, 6b, and white

Grade school students receive a 10% off student discount card to be used on materials when signing up for this class. Students are welcome to bring other materials if desired. An toolbox for transporting materials, and an inexpensive paper portfolio for transporting the pad and finished drawings would be very helpful, but are not required. Drawing boards and high quality paper for "finished drawings" will be supplied by The Art Supply Depo.
