Journaling with marker and watercolor combines the simplicity of drawing with the luminosity of watercolor. This approach is especially convenient for sketching on location, as the amount of supplies needed is small. Making an outline of your subject in ink simplifies the process of painting with watercolor. Pick a subject, make a pencil sketch, go over the sketch with a fine tip waterproof black marker, erase extra pencil marks, and then add watercolor. Subjects will be provided by the instructor.

Supplies to bring or buy, all available at The Art Supply Depo:
Nature Sketchbook, or any other hardbound sketchbook intended for watercolor, approximately 8.5 x 11 in.
H Drawing Pencil
Kneaded eraser
No 8 round Snap watercolor brush or something similar
Sharpie ultra fine point water proof black marker or similar
Container for water
Paper towels

Paint options: You have a choice from inexpensive and good to glorious, depending on your desire and budget. If you are not sure if the paints you have will suffice, bring what you have and Paul will make a recommendation. Any of the following are good options:
12 color Art Advantage Compact Watercolor Set ($3.00)
Cotman, Sennelier or Gansai Tambi Travel Watercolor Sets ($18.00-50.00, many sizes of each available)
QOR Travel Set ($99.00)
Or, consider Paul’s favorite, Daniel Smith Watercolor paints in tubes, in the following palette, or similar:
Hansa yellow light (cool yellow)
Cadmium red medium hue (warm red)
Quinacridone magenta (cool red)
Utramarine blue (warm blue)
Thalo blue green shade (cool blue)
Daniel Smith paints are available in a starter set of 5ml tubes for about $50.00
If using tube watercolors, bring a watercolor palette
