Getting started with acrylics is straightforward. The goals for this class are:

Learning to use flat and round brushes
Using a simple palette of primary colors
Creating a color chart to keep as a reference
Painting a simple landscape from a photo reference (provided)

Color terms to be explained and demonstrated:
Primary Colors: colors that cannot be created by mixing other colors: red, yellow and blue
Secondary Colors: mixtures of two primaries
Orange = red + yellow
Purple = red + blue
Green = blue + yellow
Tertiary colors: mixtures of three primaries: tans, browns, grays or black
Color temperature: Warm colors tend toward red, cool colors tend toward blue.

Supplies to bring or buy, all available at The Art Supply Depo:
Golden Open brand acrylics: (Less expensive brands may be substituted if necessary.) If you already have paints bring them.
titanium white
hansa yellow light
naphthol red light
quinacridone magenta
thalo blue
ultramarine blue

Any brand of brush for acrylics is OK. Get one filbert number 10 and one round number 8.
One canvas panel 9 x 12.
Disposable Palette, 50 Sheets or disposable Styrofoam dinner plates.
Paper towels
Pencil and Notebook or Sketchbook for taking notes
Tabletop easel if you have one

You can also call the store ahead of time and have any or all of these items collected and held for when you arrive for the class.

Please register as soon as you plan on attending. Classes that don't reach the minimum number of students required will be canceled 48 hours before the first day of class. Last minute registrations are accepted if class minimum is met and space allows.
