The Art Loop
Our birthday is really the 21st + 22nd - but why not get the party started early? For the July Art Loop, we are featuring two of our favorite local artists, Isaac Klunk + Mark Sherry. A free, family-friendly reception with the artists is from 6-9. Light refreshments will be served.

10:15 - 11:00 // ALL ABOUT ACRYLICS with Jules Webster: Differences between brands, how to read labels and choose the right paints and mediums for your artwork + budget. Amsterdam, Golden, and FW Acrylic Inks will be discussed, with an opportunity to sample each paint, and free goodies from Golden Artist Colors and Amsterdam Acrylic Paints.
11:15 - 12:00 // WATERCOLOR WITHOUT BRUSHES with Paul Brand: Use unconventional tools to have fun painting loose, bold pictures with watercolor. Daniel Smith watercolors, the differences between hot and cold press Arches paper surfaces, and how to make bold marks and manipulate watercolor using house-hold items will be demonstrated, with an opportunity for everyone to explore Daniel Smith paints + Arches paper.
12:15 - 1:00 // MAKE YOUR BRUSHES WORK FOR YOU with Donna Ebert: Learn how use different brush shapes to make different marks, therefore simplifying and energizing your painting process. Donna, of His and Herbs Artist Studio + Workshop, is the master of decorative fine art painting. The various types of artist brush shapes available will be discussed and demonstrated, with an opportunity for hands on practice making quick floral and foliage shapes with acrylic paint on canvas panel. Free Princeton Select Mixed Media brushes will be given to each attendee.
1:15 - 2:00 // SPRAY PAINT + PAINT MARKERS STICK TO EVERYTHING with Sarah Thomas: Montana Spray Paint and Posca Paint Markers are amazing tools for artists of all ages + skill levels, and for a virtually unlimited number of surfaces. Learn the differences between traditional, chalk, and water-based spray paints, how different caps will modify your spray, and how to make your own stencils. Hands on play time with the ultra pigmented Montana Spray Paint and Posca Markers will be featured.
2:15 - 3:00 // MASTER DRAWING TECHNIQUES IN CHARCOAL with Chelsea Younkman: Learn how to use a variety of erasers, blending stumps, paint brushes, and other tools to create an under-drawing and finishing details in charcoal. How to choose the right materials and tools to blend and achieve high degrees of precision with charcoal will be discussed and demonstrated.

12:15 - 1:00 // COLORED PENCIL ON BLACK + TONED PAPERS with Katie Delay: White paper is boring! Learn how to layer colored pencil on black and toned colored papers to add dimensionality and mood to your artwork. Choosing the right pencil brand and paper to enhance the finished quality of your work will be presented. Free Faber Castell Polychromos and Strathmore paper samples will be given to each attendee.
1:15 - 2:00 // NITRAM CHARCOAL ON LENOX PAPER with Paul Brand: Learn about recent advancements in charcoal and the beauty of using 100% cotton paper. The Nitram company has developed a no-mess baton-style charcoal holder, and special, over-sized charcoal sticks that are less-messy and cover larger areas faster for a more convenient experience. Lenox was the first 100% cotton paper to be produced by an American mill, and is ideal for both delicate and bold drawing applications. Attendees will get to sample Nitram products on Lenox cotton papers.
2:15 - 3:00 // THE ART OF SUMI PAINTING with Peter DeWood: This demo + hands on presentation will present a brief overview of the practice, teachings, techniques and materials of Zen Buddhist calligraphy and brush painting. Participants will get to experience and explore this ancient technique side by side with Pete after his presentation. A wide variety of paper surfaces will be provided to show how different types of papers affect the look of the finished painting.
3:15 - 4:00 // THE AMAZING + VERSATILE WORLD OF JAPANESE BRUSH PENS, MARKERS, AND DIP PEN NIBS with Allison Kuhr: The wide variety of Japanese inking pens and markers now available in the U.S. is mind-boggling, and both Depo locations have a cutting edge selection of all of them. Get an overview of the differences between pens, papers, inks, dip pen nibs, markers, pens, and find out which are Copic proof, waterproof, or not. Hands on access to try all sorts of markers, pens, and dip pens will be provided.
Saturday, July 21st from 11:00 - 1:00 / ARCHIVAL QUALITY ACRYLIC POURING TECHNIQUES WITH GOLDEN ACRYLICS: Fluid pouring is a hot trend right now, but most techniques use untested, unreliable materials from the hardware store and cheap craft paint with unstable pigments. Learn how to create acrylic pours with archival paint and mediums to ensure the quality and longevity of your artwork. Hosted by Tim Dugan of MacPherson Art.
All day Saturday + Sunday // IMAGE TRANSFER WITH COLORED PENCIL + GRAPHITE: Learn the secrets of creating perfectly crisp line and contour drawings in colored pencil following the studio methods of Nikki Eggerstorfer. Faber Castell Polychromos Pencils, Koh-I-Noor Tri-Tone Colored Pencils, Tombow Graphite Pencils, Woodless Graphite Pencils, and Borden + Riley Sheer Trace will be featured.
